아파트 창문 사이로 내리는 눈을 보자마자, 카메라를 들고 뛰쳐 나갔다. 한시간여 동안을 아파트 주위를 돌면서, 연신 셔터를 눌러댔다. 비록 첫눈은 아니지만, 적설량을 생각해 보면 첫눈으로 인정해줘야 하지 않을까. 두어시간 전부터 내리기 시작한 눈은 이제 멎으려 하고 있지만, 지면에 그리고 아파트 주차장의 자동차의 지붕위에는 눈이 소복히 쌓였다. 30년 이상 해마다 지켜와 본 눈인데, 오늘따라 유난히 마음을 안절부절 못하는 이유는 무언가 바라던 것이 나에게로 다가 오려고 하는 것 때문 아니면, 나도 모르게 그 무언가가 눈과 함께 와 주기만을 지독하게 바라고 있었기 때문일는지도 모른다.

대부분의 사람들이 첫눈에 의미를 부여하고, 설레여 한다. 그러나 나는 첫눈이 아니어도 좋다. 두번째건 혹은 세번째건 간에 그 순간동안 내가 행복해 질수 있다면, 그걸로 충분히 만족한다. 그리고 그 순간들을 마음속 깊이 간직할 수만 있다면 더욱 더 그렇고… 내가 바라고 있는 사랑처럼 말이다. 처음이기를 기대하기 보다는 항상 처음처럼 되기를 기대하는 것이 오히려 더 현실적일 뿐만 아니라 이상적이며, 결국 그 관계를 지탱시켜 주는 힘이라고 믿는다.
